Audio and Sound

Sound cards, speakers, microphone, MP3 players and other related questions.

Q: Why doesn't my microphone work with online programs?

A: The two most common reasons why microphones don't work are:

1) Make sure the microphone is plugged in the correct jack.  Many PC's built by Plexus have speakerphone modems which have an additional microphone jack. Unless you are using your computer to talk over regular phone lines, make sure your microphone is plugged into the correct jack on the sound card and not the modem.

2) Under the sound volume. Click properties. Click recording. Click microphone if not checked, then make sure Microphone is selected. (This is not mute. If it's unchecked it won't work. The device is unchecked by default.) Click properties again. Click playback. Make sure the mic is not muted.
