Q: Why
does my MS-DOS program run slower or incorrectly in Windows?
A: Check to see if changing the settings in MS-DOS works:
- 1) Do one of
the following:
- a) If an
icon which points to the MS-DOS program is located on the
Windows desktop:

Right-click the icon and select 'Properties'. (The
'<program> Properties' dialog box appears, where
<program> is the name of the MS-DOS program.)
- 2]
Click the 'Program' tab.
- b) If the
MS-DOS program shortcut is located in the 'Start' menu:
- 1]
Click 'Start' on the Windows taskbar. (The 'Start' menu
appears.)
- 2]
Select 'Programs'.
- 3] If
necessary, select the subfolder(s) in which the shortcut is
located.
- 4]
Right-click the shortcut and select 'Properties'. (The
'<program> Properties' dialog box appears, where
<program> is the name of the MS-DOS program.)
- 5]
Click the 'Program' tab.
- 2) Click
'Advanced...'. (The 'Advanced Program Settings' dialog box appears.)
- 3) Select the
'Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows' check box.
- 4) Click 'OK'
and click 'OK' again.
- 5) Do one of
the following to run the program:
- a)
Double-click the program's icon on the Windows desktop.
- b) Run the
program from the 'Start' menu:
- 1]
Click 'Start' on the Windows taskbar. (The 'Start' menu
appears.)
- 2]
Select 'Programs'.
- 3] If
necessary, select the subfolder in which the program is
located.
- 4]
Select the program's shortcut.
- 6) Use the
program for a few minutes to see if the problems occur.
- 7) Close the
program.
- 8) Type the
following and press ENTER to return to Windows 98:
EXIT
NOTE: If you cannot type in the MS-DOS window, click the close
window button in the top right-hand corner.
